Space Junk - Klingon Dictionary

Space Junk - Klingon Dictionary

Meldar16 Games (Mel and Sean) have too much danged Star Trek stuff. We'll highlight our favorites here on the Junk Drawer Blog as Space Junk.

Qapla'! I think I decided to show this off since we have 2 copies! Mel and I both picked this up separately before we ever met, and we laugh that we have the exact same printing & edition.

The Klingon language started with James Doohan making up phrases with the producer Jon Povill for the 1st Star Trek movie. Later, Marc Okrand took that base and ran with it, expanding and creating the Klingon language we know today.

While not very proficient with languages ourselves, Mel and I love constructed languages. We use a lot of Esperanto for proper names in our RPGs, picked up some toki pona books, and are fascinated with Tolkien's languages. So we have to shout out the Klingon Language Institute. Besides spreading the love of the language at conferences, they also have a Press that releases translations of classic books. Check them out!

Here's a handful of my favorite phrases from the dictionary:

nuqDaq waqwIj vIIamHa' choHmoH

Where can I get my shoes cleaned?

boch ghlchraj

Your nose is shiny.

nuqDaq yuch Dapol

Where do you keep the chocolate?
